Sequoia NP: "General Sherman Tree" in the Giant Forest. This monarch bears two honors: It is the Nations´s Christmas Tree, so designated by President Calvin Coolidge in 1926. And it is the country´s only living National Shrine to honour those who haven given their lives for the nation. It recevied this designation in 1956, under President Dwight Eisenhower.
